Principle Accountabilities:
- Managing purchased material requirements and taking appropriate actions to ensure material availability when needed, with appropriate inventory levels.
- Includes development and maintenance of planning data with a software-based integrated inventory and supply management system called material requirements planning (MRP) order release process, and coordination with buyers on capacity.
- Collaborate with buyer and supplier development engineer on ordering technique and communication of shortage as well as coordination with manufacturing production scheduler on demand and status.
- Focal point for purchased material commitments, follow up with supplier deliveries, and schedule changes.
- Investigate schedule delays and establish and communicate revised schedules
- When constraints exist, work with the business to prioritize enterprise requirements based on need.
- Reschedule purchased material commit dates and provide input to buyer on supplier delivery performance.
- Actively involved in the change configuration process and responsible for establishing purchased part implementation dates.
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering, operations, supply chain, and change control personnel to ensure an on time successful change implementation.
- Monitor revision changes of purchased parts into supermarkets with supplier, supplier development engineer, and production scheduler in manufacturing, work with buyer as necessary to amend contract to incorporate revisions.
- Responsible for drop ship logistics for outside vendors make complete parts (e.g., castings to a machine house or processing supplier)
- Provide supplier schedule information for the new product introduction department on specific assigned parts.
- Actively involved in projects in support of business objectives: cost reductions, inventory reduction initiatives, lead-time reduction, Lean manufacturing, and 6-sigma; at a senior level may champion and/ or lead projects. Support demand simulations.
For a position within the logistics department only, additional responsibilities:
This position is accountable for leveraging transportation management systems and processes to
effectively execute the delivery of material and products from various points of origin to Solar
facilities, outside vendors, and customer locations across the world. This role may include
responsibilities for developing plans, tracing, and tracking shipments, compliance and facilitating the
logistics across multiple demand streams for assigned shipments and collaborating with buyers,
project managers, production personnel and others to identify and communicate logistics capacity
issues in support of internal customer demand.
This role will help support commercial contracting with global transportation providers and lead
process improvements and projects around request for quote bids, carrier rate management,
contracting and improving carrier performance. Additional responsibilities may also include
resolving freight bill audits, and projects to streamline payment processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently in the process of obtaining a 4 year or advanced degree.
- Classified by your school as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior planning to attend graduate school, or currently attending graduate school.
- Overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong scheduling and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Knowledge of inventory and planning and a basic understanding of manufacturing operations, with product and commodity knowledge preferred.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions, strong scheduling skills, strong interpersonal / communication skills.
- Computer/system skills/MS Office skills, with an emphasis on MS Excel and ERP systems preferred. APICS certification and knowledge of basic 6 Sigma principles preferred.
- A strong tie to internal customers to effectively interface with internal customer to drive achievement of production needs and facilitate ongoing feedback between the buyer and the client.
- A solid understanding of the Demand/Supply Chain Process and Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Solar and our suppliers.
Compensation:
The hourly compensation for this role ranges from $22.30-$39.00/hr. Actual compensation will be
determined by experience and graduation year.
Summary Pay Range:
$49,209.00 – $73,813.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level,
market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note
that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
